Week 9 Famous Last Words

This Course:

I continued to read the Ramayana but instead watched the video Sita Sings the Blues. I really enjoyed watching this because I felt it was a different way to understand the Ramayana. Be able to visualize the characters allowed me to further understand their reasoning and motives. Furthermore, the illustrations were great and I am glad that I was able to watch it. I am such a bad artist so it was nice to see how talented Nina was. I feel I have read a lot about Ramayana a lot so this next week I will watch another video about the Mahabharata because I enjoy watching videos.

Other Courses:

My other courses have picked up a lot from my past weeks. I have had a few projects assigned which force me to come to campus a lot and use the software on the library computers. I was able to pick my group so that is the only positive. My drilling lab is also getting very tiring because we have to write long reports each week. We have a lot more labs to do so I will continue trudging my way through the course. I did pretty well on all of my first round of exams so I have set myself up well. I have a lot of exams coming up so I am trying to get prepared for those.

Outside of Class:

This past weekend I spent the entire weekend watching NCAA Basketball tournament. I was pretty much a couch potatoe constantly watching basketball the entire weekend. There were a lot of good games but none better than OU winning TWICE and making it to the Sweet Sixteen. My spring break was great because my girlfriend and I were able to just hang out, hike, cook, and visit family. I am sad to see the break go though. Overall, a great weekend and BOOMER SOONER Thursday!

Famous Last Words Week 8

This Class:
This week was a nice change up to the usual pace of this course. I enjoyed searching for my new music videos. A lot of the songs that I enjoy listening to have really weird music videos lol. Also, I am very interested in reading the Ramayana again. It was easily my favorite epic thus far and can’t wait to read about Rama and Sita.

Other Classes:
I had an exam and quiz this week. I felt I did really well on my Structural Geology exam. My quiz in formation evaluation did not go as great as I would have wanted, but it is not that big of a deal. I finally have a few weeks of breathing because I do not have any exams. However, I do have a Production project and drilling lab due the week after Spring Break so I will have to work over the break. I am not looking forward to April though because I have a ton of exams and projects. I am really going to cherish the next couple of weeks.

Outside of Class:
I am so happy that we are finally on break. Even though I am not going anywhere, it will be a nice relaxation period. My girlfriend and I are actually planning on going to hike in the Wichita Mountains. We have never been but I have wanted to go for a while. We may go more than once because we love to go hiking and I have heard great things about the trails. Also, we are going to see Deadpool today. My friends have said it is awesome so I am looking forward to going to see that. More importantly though, I will get movie theater popcorn!

Well thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a great Spring Break!

Famous Last Words Week 7

This Class:
I found that this reading assignment was very similar to that of the original Mahabharata. There were a few changes, but ultimately it was the same story. I did notice a few more details and was able to understand the characters relationships a little better. I still get confused on all the names with K though lol. Ultimately, I enjoyed reading the Ramayana more. This was because I enjoyed seeing the character development of Rama more than that of Arjuna. However, the battle scene was more personal due to Arjuna losing his son and getting revenge. I felt that my story was alright this week. I could have made it more detailed and created more of a story, but I plan on including this into my portfolio and fixing these issues. I am looking forward to allowing the diaries between Draupadi and her mother to be full of emotions.

Other Classes:

I survived my other courses this week which is great. I had my exam on Wednesday and I felt that I did really well on it. I have another exam coming up this week so it is time to switch gears and focus on my Structural Geology exam instead of Production. I am just really ready for Spring Break so I can finally get a break from all that studying. Also, I have been writing drilling labs for the past few weeks, so it will be nice not to have to worry about writing the report.

Outside of Class:

My girlfriend and I decided not to go anywhere this Spring Break so we are just going to relax in Norman. I am actually looking forward to doing nothing and not having to worry about school. This weekend I was able to go home and see my baby niece. That was a lot of fun. Overall, it was a great weekend and a first half of this semester.

Famous Last Words Week 6

Overall, I really enjoyed the ending of the Mahabharata. The characters really developed and I was able to understand the plotline better. It felt very focused unlike the earlier readings because of the numerous characters. I enjoyed the battle scenes too because many major characters were defeated, causing a really dynamic battle. I liked the Ramayana a lot better because of the relationship between Sita and Rama. It was my two favorite characters thus far.

I felt my storytelling was my piece of writing this week. I continued my story about Sugriva and Vali. I felt adding pieces of the Mahabharata to Vali’s revenge such as the poisonous pond and The Voice. I hope to continue this story with connecting future epics that we read.

My other classes have been pretty good thus far. I had three exams within the past week and I felt I did well on all of them but one. My reservoir exam had zero partial credit so I bet on I did not get a lot of points. I have a production engineering exam this week and I feel that it will be a tough exam. I have been studying all weekend so I hope I am prepared for what is going to be on the test.
Outside of class, I had a really fun weekend this weekend with all of my friends. We went to Top Golf all the way in Oklahoma City and it was a ton of fun. I am not the best golfer but the friends were good company. I did not hit many golf balls though because this past week I sprained my ankle super bad. I had to be on crutches and everything so that was not fun. I hope I can start walking again soon!

Overall, it was a great week and I am ready for Spring Break!

Famous Last Words: Week 5

I really enjoyed this week's reading and starting the Mahabharta. I did find it very confusing at first because of all the characters involved in the beginning. The storyline is actually starting to make sense after my Wednesday reading assignment. I am excited to see what happens with the Pandavas and their quest to get revenge against Duryodhana for taking Draupadi. I feel that it is going to be similar to the Ramayana except that the ending will be a little happier. Also, Bhima seems to be the best character and reminds me a lot of Rama. I am looking forward to seeing what he does in particular. I hope he is involved in a story plot that I can write about in next week’s storytelling.

My best writing thus far this week was my storytelling again. I had really enjoyed the scene with Baka and Bhima. I felt that it reminded of David and Goliath so I implemented the character of David into my story. The main antagonist was changed to a troll so I felt that was a good change. I really worked on paragraph length this week because I noticed my other stories were sometimes not broken up that well. I want my readers to be able to follow my story so I think I did a better job this week in my story.  If you are curious to read my story about a young man defeating an evil troll in a nearby town, read my story from Week 5.

My other classes have really picked up this past week. I had my first exam of the semester on Thursday and felt I did pretty well. I have two tests next week: Formation Evaluation on Tuesday and Reservoir Engineering on Monday. These exams should be pretty tough so I have been studying a ton for them. I hope I do great on these exams and start the semester off right. Also, drilling lab is starting to really get time consuming. We are required to write a lab report each week and they sometimes take a little longer than desired.

Finally, I “celebrated” my 21st birthday by studying all night. My friends and I are actually planning on going to Top Golf this weekend so that will hopefully be really fun even though I am not the best golfer.

Overall, this has been a very busy week. I am looking forward to getting past these exams and reading the Mahabharata

Week 4: Famous Last Words

This week’s reading was very interesting. I found that the Divine Archer did not differ very much in terms of the major plot points. It was a great reminder of the story and I understood what was going on much better than my first time reading the Ramayana. Also, I was able to better understand what the motives were for the characters. For example, Ravana’s sister Surpanakha had her nose sliced off and was beaten by Lakshmana. I missed this aspect in the original story so it was great realizing why Ravana was so mad in the first place to kidnap Sita. However, I did not necessarily enjoy the battle between Ravana and Rama. I felt it was extremely quick for such a vital plot point in the story.

My best writing was definitely my story I wrote this week. I focused on the two monkey brothers Vail and Sugriva. I am glad that I changed the story in that Sugriva and Vail had a relationship with Sita before they met Rama. This should make the motives more important. I felt that I wanted to include a reason for Sugriva to be so vengeful against his brother. I am looking forward to continuing my story with Sita and the two monkey brothers.

My other courses have really started to pick up. My homework assignments have been weekly and take a lot of time. My production homework took me and my friends more than 8 hours to complete. I also attended my first course on the drilling simulator at OU. This course allows you to simulate all of the surface operations such as tripping in and out of the well. (Tripping) I cannot wait for my other classes on the drilling simulator.

Finally, I watched the Super Bowl with all of my friends. I happy to announce that the Broncos won! Also, my 21st birthday is this Tuesday so I am looking forward to celebrating with all of my friends.

Overall, it was a great week.

Famous Last Words: Week 3

This week’s readings was very great. I find that by the end of my readings of the Ramayana I was able to fully understand what was going on. I especially found that I understood which character was which and I was able to connect the relationships between everyone. I did not find that I particularly enjoyed the ending of the Ramayana. I felt that the epic should have ended with Rama and Sita being together instead of Rama shunning her. The whole second half of the Ramayana was involved with Rama fighting off demons and animals to save Sita. I understand that the both went to heaven in the end, however I wish they got to be together right after he saved her. I did really enjoy the character Rama throughout the Ramayana though.

I actually thought my ant take on the Ramayana was one of my better stories I have written. I liked being creative and making the people as ants, Ravana as a crazy eight eyed black widow, and Kumbhakarna as a praying mantis. I felt that I developed the characters, however, I may be able to write a story about Zane and Ira's relationship.

My other courses have actually been a little busier than what I originally expected. My courses have assigned multiple homework assignments that have been difficult. Also, I am doing my first experiment in my drilling lab this week. That entails measuring the densities of the mud we mixed last week. I will have to write a lab report so that will be very time consuming.
I attending my first AADE meeting last week and that is very exciting. The discussed the different tools that are available in the bottom hole assembly. Also, I enrolled in a drilling simulator that allows you to get real life drilling experience. It is one of the best drilling simulators at any college, therefore I am very excited to see what this course entails.

Finally, I am super (no pun intended) excited for the Super Bowl this weekend. I am a huge sports fan and can’t wait to hang with friends and watch the game on Sunday.

Anyways, thanks for reading!

Famous Last Words: Week 2

This week went very smoothly and I enjoyed the assignments from Week 2. I felt I did a good job staying ahead of the assignments and reading the Ramayana. I hope to continue with this process as the weeks come along! At first, the Ramayana was difficult to follow due to the many characters involved. However, continuing to read allowed me to feel comfortable and understand fully every character and their motives. I am extremely interested in reading about what Rama and Lakshama do in order to rescue Sita. I feel that I am very interested in the god Shiva and Rama for my potential storybooks. I would love to implement these characters with either karma or a love story intertwined. I felt my best piece of writing was my story this week about King Dakin and his son Khal. I felt I did have more things to write about the story and that I ended it sort of abruptly. I hope I can incorporate the story again in future writings to complete my story. Next time I will try and make more of an outline in order to not run out of words in my stories. The stories I read for my project feedback are all very good though and I enjoy getting to read other creative stories!

My other classes are slowly picking up also. In my drilling lab we were able to create our own drilling muds which was very interesting. I cannot wait to see what this lab will have in store in the upcoming weeks. I noticed that other petroleum engineers were in this course therefore they reached out to me in my classes. We now discuss both Indian Epics and our PE courses. I am glad I got to meet them.

Overall this course has been very interesting and I am looking forward to developing my project and reading another epic. Thanks for reading everyone!

Famous Last Words for Week 1

Over the past week I have enjoyed writing about many different topics. My favorite writing this week was my storytelling about the Map of the Area Surrounding our Holiday Home. Even though I am not the most creative writer, I liked the endless possibilities I could write about. I really took my time on what I wanted to write about and planned out what I wanted to write about before I even started writing. I feel this is the best way to fully grasp and display to a reader what you wanted to write about.

When looking at the Spring 2016 posts, I noticed that Olivia’s favorite place to visit was the Whale’s Tail in Costa Rica. It is such a coincidence because my family has recently purchased a house about fifteen minutes away from Uvita (Domincal). We have visited the Whale’s Tail plenty of times and it was a close second for my favorite location. It is definitely extraordinary!

So far this week my other classes have been going okay. I feel I am going to really enjoy my Production Engineering 1 course for a couple of reasons. First, Doctor Pournik is one of my favorite professors in the program. Also, I feel that this course will really help my future internship this semester. I feel Dr. Pournik is one of the better professors at the idea of growth mindset. My most difficult course will probably be Formation Evaluation, therefore I will spend most of my time on that course. This course involves formation evaluation concepts, such as logging tools, to better drill, complete, and produce certain reservoirs. Although this course will be difficult, I am really looking forward to understanding the material and utilizing it in my internship. Below is an example of a openhole log that we will study in this course.

When it comes to outside of the class, my most important news is that my oldest sister is due to have her new baby on Jan. 23rd. This will be my second niece or my first nephew (we don’t know the gender!). So I am very excited to go home this weekend and hopefully get to see the new baby!

Overall, this was a great first week to the course!
